Manager Environment and Community
As Manager Environment and Community, Piers is responsible for the following:

- Developing and maintaining relationships with external stakeholders; - Conducting the base line studies necessary to obtain Statutory approvals; - Coordinating the submission of documents seeking Statutory approvals; and - Securing land use agreements with relevant Native Title applicants.

Piers has worked in the field of environmental management and regulation for more than twenty years, in both government and industry organisations.

In 14 years within government, Piers undertook environmental compliance auditing, environmental impact assessment and hydrological monitoring and research functions in a number of positions with the Department of Environmental Protection and Water Authority of Western Australia.

In the 11 years prior to his current position with the Australian Premium Iron Joint Venture, Piers filled environmental and community affairs management roles with Tiwest Joint Venture (titanium minerals mining and processing) and Portman Iron Ore Ltd (iron ore mining). In both roles he oversaw the development and implementation of comprehensive environmental research and management programmes, and the certification of environmental management systems to the ISO14001 Standard.

Piers is experienced with State and Commonwealth environmental legislation and permitting processes. He has established and managed community consultative committees and worked with Aboriginal Communities and Native Title groups to develop an autonomous business and obtain agreements for resource development. Piers has also initiated a number of collaborative projects with state and local governments in natural resource management.
